Hina's idolization of her uncle no doubt encouraged a certain interest in his habits, of course she would be at least curious and her mother would only have a say for so long before she was old enough to decide for herself.
To say Kurama was not expecting such a reaction would be an understatement. Considering he made a habit of bringing back surprises for everyone, he'd assumed they already knew and would be anticipating their reveal when ready to come in. Of course, he finds himself amused at Hiei's wording, as if holding off the children was such a grand gesture it may be the last act of his life.
That amusement is short lived, when he's unpacking his things only to hear a shriek from outside. The fox is already moving by the time Kazuma's follow up clarifies the situation.
“Hiei-!” It isn't necessarily unusual for the fire demon to pass out in short order when he pushed himself, and having just returned from his trip, Kurama was left with no context to shed light on what might have happened. There's no explanation that would make sense when the fire apparition was home with his family and that sort of punishment on his body only truly came about by near death experiences.
He is right to assume Kurama would have noticed something was off before long if he'd remained outside with them. He knew how to read the fire demon after mere months, the years and decades that followed only served to hone those skills. The fox knows a fever when he sees one, having handled his fair share of sick humans over the course of one lifetime, but even with that knowledge it is hard to apply to Hiei of all people.
The redhead is on his knees immediately to check Hiei's condition and get him up. Moving so quickly it takes a moment to register the heat that burns him on contact. Somehow, the fire demon seemed to be burning up from the inside, and whatever the cause, he wasn't handling it well. While he's aware Kazuma could likely handle his uncle in this condition, the fox was not convinced that parts of the house wouldn't catch fire from the increase in temperature at the rate things were going. It wasn't as if he had prior experience to rely on in this situation, which made the whole incident a guessing game.
“Hina, I am going to need your assistance with this.” Green eyes lift to the girl, pointedly softening the edge from his tone to keep the children from feeding into more panic as he continues. “We'll have to get him inside, but this can not wait for your mother's return. You are the only one here able to cool him down. While you do that, I am going to get some supplies from inside. Kazuma, stay with your sister. I will not be long but call me if things get worse.”
He waits long enough to confirm both understand their roles in the process before pushing himself to his feet and heading back inside. His injuries will have to wait until he's certain Hiei is stable, if nothing else. It could be awhile before Yukina comes back, the fire apparition takes priority.
